Brandsworth is a brand new agency. So new in fact that we haven't actually launched yet! That historic day is pencilled in for Wednesday 13th August. What this means is that we don't have a large number of clients in our portfolio as yet, but we're still very keen to show off our branding credentials and design talent. To that end, we've developed a series of 'just-for-fun' logos that are cryptically based on fictional characters and works of literature. You can follow the whole series and try to guess the literary connections on our Facebook page.
Yesterday's logo was for Lidenbrock Exploration, and in this article I'll be exploring (tongue in cheek) the identity that Brandsworth has developed for this entirely fictional organisation.
Lidenbrock Exploration is an independent Hamburg based mineral exploration company, founded in 1863 by professor Otto Lidenbrock and his nephew Axel. The company is unique in specialising in the discovery, exploration and exploitation of volcanic tubes aligned with the Earth's core, and is at the forefront of scientific and technological advancement in this highly implausible field. In addition to its own global mineral interests, the company also provides specialist logistical support to third party organisations including, but not limited to, combustible gas preparedness, subterranean river location, ambient electrically-charged gas lighting solutions, raft construction and proto-human anthropology.
Lidenbrock Exploration's recently reinvigorated brand identity embodies the robust, pioneering spirit of Otto Lidenbrock, which permeates the company to this day. The logo features an asymmetric design that perfectly captures the organisation's quirky yet practical German idiosyncrasies. The eye is immediately drawn to a series of concentric circles positioned towards the centre of the composition, radiating outwards with a controlled energy that belies the company's personality and ethos.
Lidenbrock's historically understated impact on the mineral exploration sector is effectively communicated through bold, simple line work and a muted yet contrasting colour palette. The logotype itself is positioned at an angle, with the company's very name striving to scale the mountainous heights of innovation and geological advancement. Ultimately, the logo and identity consolidate and leverage a range of contemporary design approaches in a way that honours Lidenbrock Exploration's journey, whilst looking to its future.
